Celebrating Moms in College: Mother’s Day and Future Plans
“All I am, or hope to be, I owe to my angel mother.” – Abraham Lincoln
Did you know that one million mothers are working toward an Associate’s degree in the United States?
Mother’s Day is this Sunday, and we want to be among the first to wish all of the moms at LA ORT a very Happy Mother’s Day! You are superwomen.
It is a perfect time to remind all everyone that we have a childcare referral service to help mothers (and fathers!) attend their classes.
Life After LA ORT
Not ready to stop learning once you finish your LA ORT program? If you’re currently enrolled in an Associate’s program, you may wish to continue your education after graduation.
Associate Degrees at LA ORT include:
- Business Management
- Medical Office Management
- Digital Media
- Computer Aided Drafting and Design
A lot of moms wonder how they can afford to continue their education (or find the time), but there are resources to help you reach your goals. Here are some tips to get you started.
Apply for financial help in the form of grants and scholarships from reputable sources. There are tons of non-profit and government-funded organizations offering college funding for moms. Just remember two things: You should never have to pay a fee for a scholarship or grant. If you see this, run! It’s a scam.
Consider an accredited online college offering the degree you want. Online universities are great for moms, because of the flexibility. You can take the kids to school, work and still cozy up to a computer to do your work. Don’t have a computer? You can get a laptop for school using scholarships or financial aid.
Land you new job first. As you know, LA ORT career services loves to help our students land amazing jobs. Some employers offer education assistance and other programs to continue your education. There are also a handful of scholarships exclusively for working moms! The AAUW is a great resource, if you would like more info.
We hope everybody has a wonderful weekend celebrating the moms in their lives. Want to wish an LA ORT mom a happy day? Comment below!
