Celebrating the Bright Future of LA ORT Graduates
“Like Olympic athletes, all of us are created equal, yet our success only comes with hard work and determination.”
Fred Keivanfar, Director of Admissions & Finance
The Van Nuys Graduation Ceremony on Thursday, February 27 was a successful, joyous occasion filled with smiles and even a few tears (of joy, of course). An impressive 160 LA ORT students from all nine of our programs graduated.
We are so very proud of our graduates and continue to be inspired by their accomplishments and dedication to their education. Family, faculty and friends gathered to celebrate the achievements of students who studied with us from June 1, 2013 to February 20, 2014.
There were plenty of highlights and touching moments, including five valedictorians, four graduating with an Accounting Degree and one from the Medical Assistant program. The speeches by valedictorians Nizan Kahana, Janet Fragoso, Shirley Greenberg and Astghik Ghazakhetsyan delighted the grads, their families, the Instructors and staff in the audience.
Each of the valedictorians offered their gratitude, optimism and praise along with their unique personal experiences and triumphs. For Janet Fragoso, graduate of the Medical Assistant program, enrolling at LA ORT was two years in the making.
“I never thought my life would change the way it did,” she said in her speech. “I was unemployed for almost two years…I was so excited and determined to change my life, a new beginning, a new chapter in my life…after I completed my [externship], I got the good news…I got hired!! I am currently working at F&M Radiology Medical Center…I am proud to say I am a graduate from LA ORT College.”
It was a long journey for Nizan Kahana as well, whose journey to her 18-month Accounting degree program began with eight months of ESL classes.
“I was fortunate to enroll in a school with great teachers who were always willing to help, to answer questions time after time, and dedicate time for each student in order to push us to our maximum ability…with hard work and dedication, and with the help and support of the school staff, I acquired tools and knowledge that I will use in every aspect of my life,” Kahana said of LA ORT’s classes.
Astghik Ghazakhetsyan echoed the same sentiment, noting: “The many opportunities I was given both inside and outside of the classroom contributed to my growth as a student and individual.”
We thank all of our graduates and valedictorians for their kind words and for choosing LA ORT.
In the words of valedictorian Shirley Greenberg, “I strongly believe that with enough determination and ambition, you can overcome any challenges and reap the rewards. Staying focused and positive is key to achieving success. I want to wish each and every one of you success in whatever endeavors you choose to pursue. Always strive for excellence…Live full, meaningful lives and stay true to yourselves…Thank you and congratulations to the graduation class of 2014!”
