Pharmacy Technician Associate of Applied Science (AAS)
Objective
The pharmacy technician program is designed to meet the needs of individuals who are seeking work in the pharmacy or pharmaceutical industry. The program provides students with the opportunity to learn the role of the computer in both institutional and retail pharmacy settings, such as Applications, Data Entry Software, and Pharmacy Management Software. The pharmacy technician program also includes preparation for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) licensing examination, which is an optional certification. Students learn supply distribution, pharmaceuticals, purchasing methods, inventory control methods, pharmacy terminology, insurance billing, payment collection, pharmacy calculations, federal and state regulations, pharmacy equipment and maintenance, pharmacy ethics, operating systems and effective communication skills.

Opportunities
Graduates of the Pharmacy Technician Degree program will be ready for employment in all related positions. Pharmacy technician positions are typically within hospitals, medical centers, state, local, and private as well as grocery stores, pharmacies and drug stores, department stores and other general merchandise stores. The program provides a foundation for graduates interested in the types of settings listed above.
Entrance Requirements
Pharmacy technician students must obtain a passing score on the LA ORT entrance exam and be interviewed by the admissions department.
Equipment
LA ORT students are trained on the appropriate equipment consistent with the demands of the job market.
Program Length
This program may be offered in the morning, afternoon, or evening sessions. The pharmacy technician morning session is taught 5 days per week (Monday through Friday) for approximately 48 weeks of instruction. In the evening sessions, this program is taught 4 days per week (Monday to Thursday) for approximately 76 weeks of instruction. This is a 65 semester credit hour program with 1200 classroom hours.

Los Angeles ORT College offers various tuition financing plans, financial aid and scholarship programs for eligible and qualified students.
