Luckily, students at LA ORT have it easy. Los Angeles is a vibrant city with a jam-packed events calendar. Even better, many of these events are completely free! Take a look at some of the hottest free summer events in Los Angeles:
Saturdays Off the 405 

  • Where: The Getty Center
  • When: July 11th and August 22nd
  • What: Any day spent at The Getty is time well spent, but on certain Saturdays, the experience gets even better with free concerts in the courtyard. Enjoy outdoor live music, gorgeous views of the city, and everything else the famous Getty museum has to offer. Perfect for bringing the family.

KCRW Summer Nights

  • Where: Various venues across the city
  • When: Thursday Nights
  • What: Cultural workshops, dance floors, and live bands. This annual concert series hosted by LA public radio station KCRW is a great way to broaden your musical tastes while exploring new areas of the city.

Moonlight Movies on the Beach

  • Where: Alfredo’s Beach Club in Long Beach
  • When: Thursday nights
  • What: Kick back, stick your toes in the sand, and enjoy family friendly movies on the beach. This year’s flicks include Coraline, Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, E.T., Big Hero 6, Labyrinth, The Sandlot, and many more.

US Open of Surfing

  • Where: Huntington Beach Pier
  • When: July 25th through August 2nd
  • What: Even for non-surfers, the country’s biggest pro surfing competition is something you don’t want to miss. Surfers from all over the world come to Huntington Beach to catch some waves, and you can be there to see it all! Don’t forget to bring your sunscreen.

Special Olympics World Games

  • Where: Various locations
  • When: July 25th through August 2nd
  • What: This year marks a very exciting moment in LA’s cultural history. Over 7,000 athletes from 177 countries will be competing in this landmark event. From attending to supporting an athlete, to volunteering, there are plenty of ways you can get involved.
