From Cashier to Accounting Assistant
Life can be tricky. It’s easy to get stuck in a rut, and when you look up, your whole life has passed you by. It’s important to stop every once in awhile and take stock of your life. Is your career path leading you where you want to go? If not, what are you going to do about it?
Khandaker Ahmed was working as a cashier at Exxon Mobil. He’d been there since 2012, and it had become comfortable, but he knew that being a cashier was not a career. It was time to take action.
After touring the school, speaking with an admissions counselor, and comparing it to other colleges, Khandaker decided that LA ORT was the perfect fit for him. He enrolled in the Accounting program right away, and graduated in September of 2014.
After graduation, Khandaker worked closely with the career services department to prepare to enter the workforce. LA ORT helped him with resume preparation and interview techniques. He got a call for an interview in November and was hired to start December 8th—just a few short months after graduation.
Khandaker now works at West Coast Tax & Financial Services as an Accounting Assistant. At the close of his graduation speech, he took a moment to reflect on how different his life is now that he has his AAS Degree in Accounting:
“I am very excited about my new journey and my career. I am very thankful to Los Angeles ORT College and all they have done for me to give me the necessary education and skills for me to be able to get this wonderful job…Without all of you guys I wouldn’t be able to be where I am and do what I do.”
