Having Fun Promotes Learning: A Look at The Grove & Glendale Galleria
Our post about free museum activities was a hit, so we’re going to explore Los Angeles more often. What’s the best part?
Doing things outside of class and work can actually help you perform better at LA ORT!
Why? According to neurologists, enjoyable activities increase oxygen, dopamine and endorphins in the brain. Additionally, ideal brain activation occurs when we’re in positive emotional states. The result is a supercharged mind, enhanced learning ability and performance.
We know our students are busy bees. Many of you have families and jobs. When you need a break, it’s good to know about the free activities nearby. Today we bring you The Grove on Fairfax near Wilshire and Glendale Galleria on West Broadway in Glendale. Both malls have free events and fun sights to see.
To Break a Sweat
Nike Club at The Grove
America’s favorite sports brand offers two free weekly events to stay in shape and make new friends.
The Nike Run Club takes place every Wednesday from 6:30 – 7:30 pm. Meet interesting people and athletes while you go for a run (3 or 5 miles). The club meets at the Nike store.
The Nike Training Club is a full-body training session. It takes place every Thursday at 7 pm.
We Run The Grove – April 26, 2014
Support the American Heart Association and join crowds of smiling, sweaty people in a free 13.1-mile run/walk event. Half marathons normally cost 70 dollars or more! This good cause has a suggested donation of only $15 (but moral support is fine, too).
High-Cardio Dance at the Glendale Galleria
9021Pho has hosted free workouts every Sunday in April. On April 27 (no class on Easter), there is a high-cardio dance and conditioning class. It begins at 9:45 am. Snacks and refreshments will be provided afterward. For more information, call (818) 956-7505.
To Entertain Kids
Kids Club at The Grove
Kids Club is a regular event at The Grove. Every Thursday from 11 am to 1 pm, you can treat your little ones to a fun-filled morning with music, entertainment and more. Don’t forget: The Easter Bunny is currently set up at The Grove, too.
Giggles N’ Hugs at Glendale Galleria
Every Friday, Giggles N’ Hugs has a special drop off service. You can take your kids to eat and play with the Giggles N’ Hugs staff for 2 – 4 hours while you get some much needed alone time to enjoy the mall.
Mommy Movies at The Grove
Monday Morning Mommy Movies are perfect for students with newborn babies. Between school, work and family, it’s hard to squeeze in a trip to the movies. Enjoy that new hit blockbuster without any glares if your baby cries. In fact, babies are encouraged! (Regular matinee ticket price applies but your baby gets in free.)
LA ORT students work hard. We are very proud of each and every one of you. Don’t forget to take some breaks this spring!
