It Takes More Than An Education To Get Hired!
Yes, it takes more than a college credential to get a good job— LA ORT College wants students to learn how to market themselves effectively after they graduate.
Employers will look for your college credential on your resume, and may invite you for an interview. Once at the interview, they will look beyond your credential and assess your appearance, reliability, personality and people skills. They need to make sure you’re a good fit for the position and the company you’re applying for.
It’s important to look your best for the interview. Dress professionally. Clean and well-pressed clothing, such as suits, dress pants, dress shirts, ties and blouses are necessary. Make sure your hair is neatly styled and nails are groomed. Having a clean-cut professional appearance will show the employer, that you are a serious professional and that the job opportunity is important to you.
You must allow yourself enough time to arrive a little early for your interview. The person interviewing you may make you wait but you must not make them wait for you. During the interview, you will be asked questions about your work history. Be ready with concrete examples that demonstrate you can be counted on. A record of great attendance in school or previous work, and completing all classroom and/or work assignments on time are two great examples of reliability.
During the interview your overall personality will be assessed as well. Try to relax and look the interviewer in the eye. Take a moment to answer any questions asked thoughtfully. The interviewer will look for a pleasant personality and good, clear communication skills. Self-confidence is also important. Show them that you know you can be successful in the role that you are interviewing for.
Before you go on your next interview, remember that while your college education is very important so is your appearance, reliability and personality.
Show employers why they should hire you. Stand out from the crowd. Dress professionally, be on time and be friendly and confident. ORT College knows you can do it and we provide all the help you will need to get the job you want.
