Los Angeles Labor Day Weekend 2014:
There is no better way to kick off the end of summer than a three-day weekend. Every year, Labor Day weekend in Los Angeles is known for its abundance of fun activities for everyone – and this year is no exception. Below are the best-of-the-best of this weekend’s events:
Made in America Music Festival: American rap legend, Jay-Z, personally picked the line up for this big-name musical event sponsored by Budweiser. The festival begins at Noon, Saturday, August 30th with performances by Imagine Dragons, Kendrick Lamar, Afrojack, Iggy Azalea, Sublime, Capital Cities, along with many other greats. Continuing at Noon on Sunday are performances by Kanye West, John Mayer, Juanes, Weezer, Rise Against, Steve Aoki, Chance the Rapper and more. Refreshments will be served by a collection of delicious establishments including Kogi BBQ, Grilled Cheese Truck, and even more Los Angeles favorites! This awesome Labor Day Weekend event will take place in downtown Los Angeles at Grand Park. Entrances are at 200 N. Grand Ave., 221 N. Hill St., 221 N. Broadway and 227 N. Everything Is Festival- The 5th Dimension: From the weird to the terrible, the “Everything Is Festival” proudly features the oddest, most unconventional, and hilariously bad clips, films, pieces, and the like. The “Everything Is Festival” is a celebration of everything outrageous in art, film, and food. If you’re looking for the weirdest event to enjoy this Labor Day weekend, this is it. The Cinefamily sponsors the event along with “Everything is Terrible” at the Silent Movie Theatre- 611 N. Fairfax Ave., Fairfax District. Opening night begins tonight, Thursday, August 28th and it is free to all attendees. The festival continues on from Friday the 29th to Monday September 1st. Gateway 2014: A four-day gaming convention, Gateway 2014 is packed with video game tournaments, game demos, and more. Board game lovers and card players are encouraged to attend, as there will be events for those gamers as well! Passes and weekend event line-up is available at www.strategicon.net. The events begin Friday August 29th and continue through Monday September 1st. Gateway 2014 will be held at the Hilton Los Angeles Airport- 5711 W. Century Blvd, Los Angeles.
Los Angeles County Fair: Another fantastic event occurring this glorious Labor Day weekend is the 92nd annual Los Angeles County Fair (or LACF). This event is great for adults and kids alike. Enjoy the many options of amazing food, rides, concerts, shows, shopping, and beverages the fair has to offer. Special attractions include Luminasia, the Chinese Lantern exhibit, and the Hall of Heroes that takes a look at the science of super heroes. The fair begins, this weekend, on Friday, August 29th from 3 PM -11:45 PM. It continues Saturday August 30 and Sunday August 31st from10 AM – 11:45 PM through Monday, September 1st from 10 AM – 10 PM. Visit www.lacountyfair.com for more information.
Sylmar Olive Festival: This delicious festival celebrates the rich history of olives in Sylmar. Events to celebrate with include olive tasting, an “Ancient Rome” costume contest, chalk art, Greco-roman re-enactors, live music, a beer and wine garden, and dancing! With a large entertainment area for children and over 150 vendors to browse, the fun will be endless! This awesome family event will take place at the beautiful El Cariso Park (13100 Hubbard St., Sylmar) Saturday August 30th- Monday September 1st, 12PM-8PM. John Williams at The L.A. Philharmonic: Friday August 29th and Saturday August 30th at 8 PM, the famous composer, John Williams, will conduct selections from his vast collection of iconic movie scores including Star Wars, Superman, and Jurassic Park. Family Guy creator, Seth MacFarlane, joins with some vocal accompaniment at this unforgettable event at the Hollywood Bowl (2301 N. Highland Ave., Hollywood).
