Make Your Own Luck
Work hard and use the tools…ORT has given you to make your own luck.
You might not recognize his name, but Gene Simmons is the founder of the legendary rock band, KISS and star of the reality TV show “Family Jewels.” Now, why would a celebrity be talking about hard work?
When speaking to ORT students at a campus in his native Israel, Simmons said,
“But don’t be fooled by fantasy and fairy tales: Success is determined by what you put into it; don’t trust luck.”
While many people may think celebrities are some of the luckiest people in the world, obtaining that success takes a lot of work. Gene Simmons made his own luck. He spent years struggling in obscurity before Kiss was a hit. Even after gaining popularity, the constant touring, songwriting and intricate stage performances were anything but easy. Besides creating and starring in “Family Jewels,” he also started numerous businesses, discovered Van Halen, wrote books and produced other entertainment. That’s not just luck, that’s constant hard work.
You, too, can make your own luck. Stay committed to your goals even when it’s difficult. Keep on it in the long term. We know you can. Just like Gene Simmons had his band-members and management for support, you can always count on ORT to be there for you.

At the beginning of a new semester or new career, everyone experiences a “honeymoon period.” The excitement of your brand new class eases the difficulty of on-time attendance, studying for tests and completing assignments.
The honeymoon can’t last forever. At some point, we all go through a lull in motivation, a day when we’d pay a hundred dollars to just stay in bed.
This is the most important time to stay focused and diligent! It takes a lot of effort to achieve your goals, but remember that all your work now will make your future success that much sweeter.
At LA ORT, our classes help students advance their careers, which can mean a lot of work. We know it can be tough, so we are here to support and guide you. A friendly attitude, student counseling, one-on-one teacher meetings and more are all part of the ORT experience.
