Manage Your Time with a Busy Schedule

Some of our new students have not been in school for years, have family responsibilities and jobs.  If this sounds like you, you understand how difficult it is to squeeze in time for homework and studying.
This is why learning good time management skills is so important.  Get the most value out of your LA ORT education by carefully planning out your time.
Here are 3 tips that will help you manage your time, even with a busy schedule
  1. Create a detailed plan.  At the beginning of the week (Sunday or Monday), list out the tasks you need to do by the end of that week.  Next, write down the day and time you want to do each task.  For example, if you have a computer exam Friday, you may plan to study 3 hours during the week to prepare; 1 hour Monday, 1 hour Wednesday and 1 hour Thursday from 7pm to 8pm.  Schedule it in your calendar and set a reminder.
  2. After you’ve planned out your schedule, you must stick to it. Having a realistic schedule will make this easier to do.  For example, if you know you will be eating dinner with your family at 7pm do not schedule your study time at 7pm; schedule it at 5pm or 9pm instead.
  3. Lastly, it is important to share your schedule with the people in your life.  Politely ask them for their support.  For example, if you have a child, ask your spouse or other family member to watch your child during the times that you have scheduled to study.  This way, when your study time comes, you can really concentrate on studying without being interrupted.
Using these time management tips will help you take control of your time so that you can accomplish your educational goals and move on to having a successful career.  LA ORT believes in you; we know that you have what it takes to be successful here and we’re always here to help.  Fill free to contact your advisor for help anytime.
