Summer Fun for LA ORT Students & Families: Santa Monica Pier
LA ORT students aren’t usually from Los Angeles. In fact, many of our students were born in other countries! But whether you’ve been in this city for two years or 20, you’ve probably already noticed that LA’s summers can be rough. Beat the heat with a trip to Santa Monica beach. It’s fun for the whole family, a date, or even just a solo trip.
The Santa Monica pier is always a fun way to spend a summer day in LA. It’s rich in history and is packed with snacks, rides and even live music. They have free events for kids and adults too.

Of course, if the pier doesn’t interest you, there’s always the sand. Nothing says summer like a picnic on the beach. Window-shopping at 3rd Street promenade also makes for a nice afternoon.
No car? No problem! Here’s how to get to Santa Monica from both LA ORT campus neighborhoods.
Van Nuys – Get on the Metro Rapid Line 761 at Van Nuys/Victory Blvd to Westwood/Wilshire Blvd. From Wilshire/Westwood Blvd (northwest corner), get on the Metro Rapid Line 720. It’ll take you to the 3rd Street Promenade.
Wilshire – Wilshire Blvd goes straight to the beach. Hop on the Metro Rapid Line 720 just outside of the LA ORT campus and take it to Santa Monica.
You work hard. Don’t forget to enjoy the sun this season!
