ORT College is not only committed to the students’ successful completion of their education, but also committed to them in achieving success once they graduate and begin their careers.
Having the skill, education and experience in your field is essential to obtaining the job you want. However, this alone is not all it takes to be successful in your career. In addition to skill, education and experience, training your mind for success is just as important. You must think positive, create goals and practice self-discipline in order to enjoy long lasting success.
First of all, it is extremely important to understand that your thoughts create actions, and your actions create results. For example, if you are given an assignment by your job supervisor and all you say to yourself is “I can’t do this, my work is going to be horrible,” you are setting yourself up for failure before you even get started. Thinking this way will negatively impact your creativity, efficiency and ability to think clearly. Likewise if you say to yourself “I can do this, I am good at this,” you will notice that you feel better about yourself, and that you become more creative and focused.
Try this: think about something you did really well in the past, this could be anything such as giving a presentation, taking a test, doing a class project, acing a job interview, etc. If you can, remember the thoughts that were going on in your head at that time. Chances are you were thinking positive thoughts. It’s difficult to do anything well while you are telling yourself “I can’t” at the same time.
Create Career Goals
Creating goals for yourself and what you want to accomplish in your career is also an important aspect of the psychology of success. Setting goals gives you direction in life. For instance, if your goal were to become a Graphic Designer you would not apply for Accountant positions because that would not help you achieve your goal. Once you have a goal, it is your job to make sure that your thoughts and actions will bring you closer to that goal. For instance, if it’s your goal to become a Graphic Designer the thoughts you may want to have are “I love working with technology” or “I have an eye for creativity.” The actions that you may want to take are taking courses in Computer Graphics & Design Publishing or applying for Graphic Design positions. These thoughts and actions will bring you closer to your goal, and will eventually result in you actually reaching it.
Goal setting is essential to your career success, but simply setting them is not enough. You need to have self-discipline to actually do the tasks required to achieve those goals. As we have to balance many areas of our lives such as family, health and fitness, education and career, it can be easy to get off track and lose sight of what’s important. You must train your mind to stay focused on your goals and take the necessary actions to achieve them no matter what.
In conclusion, the psychology of success is about training your mind for success. Positive thinking, goal setting and self-discipline will not only assist you in achieving success in your professional life, but will also assist you in achieving success in other areas of your life as well.
